Peter Schofield

Project Management Consultancy (part time) and currently I am active in local service goups.

Why I am involved:I would like to progress community well being and health within Noosa and Hinterland environs reinforcing a better relationship between the Community and Biosphere Boards.

Current projects & activities:I participate as a member and director in a number of social and service clubs within Noosa area in an effort to improve the community spirit and health. I hope to bring this experience to the Social Board as a new member.
I also work part time consulting for major EPCM firms on large multi sector projects within Australia. -
My relevant experience:My career has been a series of 3 to 4 year partnerships with Engineering and Project Management firms across the coal, oil and gas, shale mining, nickel and organisational management industries as a Project Controls Manager.
Working across Australia, and also in Asia has broadened my understanding of global Project Management principles particularly in feasibility, project establishment and control of schedule, budgets and administration.
While new to the board I am hoping that I can transfer some of this knowledge and use it to bring about growth and success within the Biosphere community. -
I'm most passionate about:…the environment and how communities treat the growth and sustainability of development within the Noosa Biosphere Boundaries.
I would like to assist in celebrating Noosa's sense of community so that the future Noosa is a better place to live.
Noosa has a community that has worked vigorously to improve standards of living and by joining the Social Board I hope that I can contribute to the work needed to empower the community. -
Pearls of wisdom:Do the best you can in what ever you apply yourself to and learn from the opportunites as they arise. Use the learning to improve decision making for future ventures.

Why I am involved:For the sake of my childrens' futures, I'm keen to change, for the better, the ratio of what we now know we have to do about survival of the species and what we currently are doing about it.

Current projects & activities:Working through the MAB programme, I'm striving on providing a framework to give real value and recognition to those enterprises achieving genuine reduction in the damage their business does to the environment.

My relevant experience:I have long been involved in many forms of professional, business, community or sporting associations, including the being the founding President of the Adelaide Residents' Society in the early 70's, then a radical force for change in the way the CIty was planned and run. Lately I've been involved in attempts to have ordinary accounting concepts include the whole costs of any transaction included, such as costs of replacement of resources consumed and of disposal of the end product. Not much progress so far, however.

I'm most passionate about:Highlighting the folly of the current mantra of most Governments & Businesses that exponential growth of populations and economies is the only way forward. “Populate or Perish!” “Produce! - Consume!” is the message. I think that there are other ways.
I’m also passionate about the rôle that television has in supporting that particular world view. -
Pearls of wisdom:It’s taken me some years and some hardships to understand the wisdom in two of my Great-Grandmother sayings: "There's always enough." and "Whatever is, is best.” Very useful to remember in times of undue stress, I find.

Why I am involved:I want to be part of finding solutions to the pressures on people and the environment, to find ways for all members of the community to make their contribution to a better society.

Current projects & activities:I plan and present art projects that encourage expression and engagement. I am also involved in developing community driven solutions to a consistent approach to sustainable growth and change on the Blackall Range.

My relevant experience:My career and life has provided me with a big picture view of society, it's paths to success and failure and the challenges faced by governments charged with taking care of the people who live within their jurisdictions. I have worked for both Federal and State government in areas of program and policy development and delivery. I have travelled extensively throughout my life. I am currently a member of the Blackall Range Land Use and Planning Association, Maleny and District Green Hills Fund, Arts For Community and a partner in the Australian Agency For Arts.
