Natural resource management, policy and planning

Why I am involved:I want to contribute to the protection and promotion of the wonderful natural values that attracted me to Noosa some 25 years ago.

Current projects & activities:I am the Environment Board representative on Tourism Noosa's Sustainability Committee I am a volunteer tutor in adult literacy at Noosa Library. I assist Maroochy Waterwatch to prepare funding applications.

My relevant experience:My professional and academic background is in natural resource management, nature conservation and landscape architecture and planning. The final 10 years of my career were spent developing and implementing State vegetation management policy. This gave me an understanding of the challenges involved in achieving sustainable primary production while conserving the natural environment. Born in New Zealand, I am an Australian citizen, having lived here since 1978. I have also lived in Fiji and the Australian Territory of Christmas Island. I now enjoy my retirement in Noosa and want to do what I can to ensure that my grandchildren will have the same opportunity.

Why I am involved:Planet Earth doesn't need the human race but humans need Planet Earth. I want to contribute in a positive way to the Noosa Biosphere.

Current projects & activities:I am the Co-ordinator of the Sunshine Beach Bushland Care, a volunteer group which weeds, rehabilitates and revegates the Sunshine Beach dunes.

My relevant experience:I am married - 43 years, have 2 adult children and 4 grandchildren. I have travelled extensively over 45 years both within Australia and overseas with a focus on the natural environment. We bought our beach house at Sunshine Beach in 1986 living here since 1999. In my 20 - 30's I lived in western Qld. where I witnessed environmental damage done by scrub pulling and inadequate wildlife corridors. In my 30's I was on the Executive Council of the National Trust involved with the conservation of both the built and natural environment and with the first Heritage Legislation. In my 40's as a mature age student, I studied Interior Architecture, and practised until retirement last year. In my 50's I lived in Vietnam where I witnessed a tragic lack of biodiversity and shocking pollution. In my 60's I realised "that the someone who should do something about the weeds" needed to be us!

I'm most passionate about:Residential buildings which breath and include adequate green space so people can interact with fauna, flora and the environment. Help the Noosa Biosphere by controlling the spread and the ultimate eradication of feral invasive weeds which are slowly and relentlessly stealing large tracts of the natural environment.

I'm most passionate about:Very keen to preserve the natural assets of the local area from inappropriate development and to see the Noosa River achieve an A+ rating and complete the Noosa River Management Plan.
