The greater Noosa region has very strong community values around environmental activism and participation. These common values give us the capacity to face the challenges of change. The UNESCO Man and the Biosphere program focuses on balancing conservation of biodiversity with sustainable use of biological resources such as water, land, plants and animals.
Noosa Biosphere social objectives aim to build on the strengths and commitment already in the community to enable us to ensure a sustainable future environmentally, socially and economically.
The social board's primary reference point is the former:

Community well being is largely dependent on its members’ levels of satisfaction with their circumstances and the basic necessities of living, such as work, shelter and relationships with others.
The Social Board will work with the community to ensure that community facilities and service providers are aware of the communities’ changing needs.
We will also work with Council to ensure facilities and services are accessible to all community members.

The Noosa community’s record for living sustainably with its natural environment is recognised by Biosphere Reserve status.
This achievement is largely due to the level of participation by communities working alongside each other and with Council to build the social infrastructure necessary to develop a robust and vibrant community.
The Social Board’s objectives are aimed at increasing opportunities to develop and strengthen the social capital of the Noosa Biosphere community through encouraging participation in networks of relationships between individuals and groups, to achieve their goals and continue to build a strong community that is ready willing and able to face all challenges.

The Social Board seeks to support communities to achieve harmonious and sustainable relationships while valuing diverse views.
The Social Sector Board will measure success through participation rates for activities, and the diversity of opinions raised.
Please feel very welcome to contact us.
The Sector Boards meet every 6 weeks, usually at the Sunshine Coast Council chambers in Tewantin. If you wish to attend, please let us know and you will be warmly welcomed. Please check our events calendar for upcoming meetings.
Meeting minutes are recorded and subsequently approved at the next sector board meeting. They are hence being uploaded to the website with a 6 weekly delay. For older meeting minutes see the archive.
