The Governance Board is the coming together of representatives across the various sector boards alongside community representatives and Council. The objective of the Governance Board is to develop planning tools and guidelines to assist the various Sector Boards with their objectives on behalf of the communities of interest they represent.
The Governance Board sets the tone and enables the Sector Boards to engage in projects and initiatives on their own. The Board also helps pull together the threads of activity for cross-sectoral initiatives and engagement.
The Noosa Biosphere Ltd structure has been designed as a community partnership model, working with various community sectors, local government and volunteer groups to achieve common goals.
With meetings once every six weeks, interspersed by countless volunteer hours on working groups, the Board has been working on the governance structures and guidelines on ‘how we work’. In addition, the Board has also played a key role in helping facilitate the ongoing conversation on ‘what we are going to do’.
A couple of outcomes over this past year have included the recently released Plan of Management and guidelines on accreditation and sponsorship, and of course the information in this website.
Now that some of the structures are in place, the entire Sector Board structure wishes to further engage with the community and asks our community to not only come up with ideas on how we can further improve our Biosphere but initiate projects that deliver biosphere values.
There are many ways in which you can get involved yourself. Don’t be shy! Drop us a line to say “Hi, I have an idea” and we can put you in touch with a group of like minded people to help make it happen.
The first point of contact is likely to be with a sector Board first as it is important to note that the Governance Board is NOT the controlling body nor is expecting to direct folks on what they should be doing.
Noosa Biosphere activities are primarily driven by each of the individual sector boards, so we recommend that you choose a sector board that is most relevant and contact them directly.
The Sector Boards meet every 6 weeks, usually at the Sunshine Coast Council chambers in Tewantin. If you wish to attend, please let us know and you will be warmly welcomed. Please check our events calendar for upcoming meetings.
Meeting minutes are recorded and subsequently approved at the next sector board meeting. They are hence being uploaded to the website with a 6 weekly delay. For older meeting minutes see the archive.
