The ‘Man in the Biosphere’ program (MAB) celebrates ways that humans interact within the environment in sustainable ways. The Cultural Board aims to promote the culture and heritage of the Noosa region by recognising and supporting local initiatives. The Board also develops its own initiatives and works with other Biosphere boards and groups to foster creative and cultural endeavours that will build the region’s international Biosphere status.

Creative solutions will help us achieve sustainable human existence within our Biosphere. MAB reserves have educational roles in environment and sustainability topics. Education can be greatly enhanced through creative approaches.
Creative processes and projects engage people in the community more effectively than just through sharing information. Music, media presentations, artworks, sculptures, drama performances and stories can all communicate key ideas and messages about the Biosphere and reach the hearts and minds of our community.
Knowing our culture and history and learning from past successes and challenges can help us in our future activities.
This includes drawing from Indigenous and non-Indigenous history past and present; documenting, recognizing and celebrating our heritage and cultures.
The Cultural Board is working towards preserving, promoting and respecting the Noosa Biosphere reserve’s unique cultural identity and heritage.

People who are connected to their community and ‘place’ are more likely to care for their community and the environment. Healthy communities have healthy creative lives and creative workers within them.

The theme for the 2009 event was ‘Floating Land - Rising seas’.
There are many challenges for the future. The Noosa Biosphere Cultural Sector Board is interested in engaging with cultural experts on exploring the following:
