Noosa is getting a mention in UK's Guardian Environment Blog and also in Australian's Crikey over Lord Monckton's talk at the J. My partner asked me: 'Isn't Lord Monckton a comedian?' I answered: 'I don't find him funny'.

Because Monckton is an eloquent speaker, I regard his 'climate destabilisation denial' - which is what his 'brand' of climate scepticism really is - a dangerous thing.
Humans are generally good in denying 'bad news', especially if there is collective responsibility involved. Being German I have an acute awareness about my countries own history of denial. The people of Germany at the time of Hitler's rule wanted to believe in the good that appeared to be happening to their country. So much so that they did not want to see the dire consequences of their actions and denial.
We are clearly benefiting of the hard work of previous generations. I appreciate our 'materialistic' standard of living has never been higher. But the fall out of our gregarious consumption will reach tipping point in the not so far away future. Unless we change our behaviour drastically certainly our children and grand children will have a high price to pay. Whole people are already affected.
'Climate destabilisation through human activity' is a concept that is very hard to take - especially for older generations having worked all their life for a better future.
I do believe the most of the hard industrious work in the past was done with best intentions. The flaw was that our economies were build on the assumption of never-ending resources. The severe suffering this will cause is a concept that is hard to take.
On the upside it has also equipped us potentially with the means to make amends collectively as a world community.
Courage, commitment and a real change of our comfortable habits are needed. Building unprecedented resolve and community spirit is not being furthered by seemingly knowledgeable climate change deniers like Monckton. We can not afford any delay and obstruction in making amends. The time to prevent run-away climate change is now.
Enough theorising - time to fix my bike and actually start riding to work again.
Have a lovely day. and please feel free to leave comment.
