After more than a year of work by our biosphere community, our draft Climate Action Plan is ready for review. Studies show that our biosphere is particularly vulnerable to a range of impacts from our changing climate such as floods, storm surges and sea level rise. To address these challenges, we've held a series of workshops where we've gathered community views on how to prepare for such impacts. With the help of SEQ Catchments and University of Sunshine Coast, we have produced a draft Climate Action Plan. It also contains up-to-date information and hazard maps showing how our biosphere may be impacted in the future.
The Noosa Climate Action Plan offers our community the chance to view our Biosphere through a new window that turns threats into opportunities. Adapting to climate change requires an integrated and positive approach by a well-informed and cohesive community.
We now invite the community to join us for the next step. A workshop will be held at Peregian Community House, 255 David Low Way, Peregian Beach on Thursday 27 October from 5.30 – 8.30pm to review and update the plan. A variety of guest speakers will lead discussions on relevant issues such as the Queensland Coastal Plan, local wildlife corridors and solar energy options for neighbourhoods and individuals. So, there’s a lot to learn about living sustainably in our biosphere and a chance to have your say on shaping our future. A light supper will be served. Whether you have already participated in our previous workshops or if this is your first time, be part of this inspirational journey to help our community prepare for the likely impacts and possible opportunities of a changing climate. To attend the workshop, RSVP to: climateaction@noosabiosphere.org.au by Friday 20 October.
