Different perspectives come from all sources and this is one that makes us think. What kids interpret what they see and hear and experience adults doing, is often lost on us. Not with this young girl’s speech. Whether written by her or not. Whether staged or not. Whether one believes in the topics or not. It is powerful. She speaks to what really matters.
As adults we predominantly react based on emotion. Facts, particularly ones that don’t align with our views, only get in the way of set minds. Adults point score, align and resist even in the face of evidence to the contrary. Kids don’t. Listen to this girl. She is afraid and concerned for the future she will live in. A future that is in adult hands and not being well managed. She wants us to recognise that what we decide as adults has to reflect what the next generation want and need when we are gone.
One of the efforts of the Noosa Biosphere Governance Board in 2010 is to reach out and engage with young people across this biosphere and to ask for their input, listen to their opinions and ideas and to forge a future together that is theirs more than ours.
