I have recently been trying to get my head around the Peregian Originals debate. And from what I understand, Sunshine Coast Regional Council wishes to reduce the event and its impact for the benefit of the local community.
On the flipside, many community members want the event to continue - also for the benefit of the local community.
How does one determine which community voice is right?
Council claims it wants to help the Peregian Originals relocate, as reported recently in the Sunshine Coast Daily.
This was followed by yesterdays story, with the founder of the Originals attacking Council over their approach.
The Peregian Originals have been running a free community concert down in front of the Peregian Surf Life Saving Club every second Sunday for the past 10 years. Providing free entertainment and a thriving trade for local businesses and community groups.
Some Local residents have been complaining about increased noise levels, disturbances and excess crowds - affecting accessability to their residences.
There are two sides to this debate, some of my questions are:
Has the Council done enough to save the Peregian Originals?
Do the residents concerns take precedence?
And what about the local business community, whose trade will be affected?
And how does one put a measure on the potential joy and pleasure to so many (including the artists themselves)?

- The Peregian Originals have a facebook page with nearly 1000 'fans'.
- ABC Sunshine Coast Talkback ran a program yesterday on the topic, with many comments flooding in.
- And don't forget our local papers, perhaps you can write a letter to the editor?
You can get involved and have your say!
