One of our most important opportunities to engage with the Sunshine Coast Regional Council is currently in progress. Council has opened their doors and made public several key DRAFT planning documents. It is now up to the community to take up the offer and provide feedback on those documents.
Further information can be found on Council's website under the Our Place Our Future program (and as per my earlier blog post on this topic, I know that Council have extended their submission date. So don't worry, I have been assured that council will accept submissions up until the 31st of December).
So what have our busy Biosphere volunteers been up to on this topic?
Well I know of at least 7 submissions so far from our various Noosa Biosphere Sector Board members, and there are probably more being drafted as I am typing this note.
All documents being submitted are being loaded on to our Documents and Resources section of our website for your information.
I would like to particularly draw your attention to one of my favourites, the submission on Climate Change.
"Climate change poses clear, catastrophic threats. We may not agree on the extent but we certainly can't afford the risk of inaction." Now that quote is not from a noted environmentalist, it is from Rupert Murdoch! So we can be heartened by the speed at which this topic is gathering momentum (but perhaps still not enough momentum given the latest reports from Copenhagen).
We can all take action on climate change, and it need not cost much - indeed it may save you money. The Council's draft climate change strategy includes a detailed action plan and the Biosphere will be working with Council to help make those actions a reality - you can read our submission here.
Anne.
