Noosa Integrated Catchment association and Noosa Library are joining forces to help people learn more about local native plants.
During 2010, ten illustrated talks on the plants of the Noosa Biosphere will be presented by Stephanie Haslam, author of the local field guide “Noosa’s Native Plants” and the website www.noosasnativeplants.com.au.
Each talk will introduce new plants and plant types and cover seasonal information including:
- Flowering Now
- Weeds to Watch
- Vegetation Types and Regional Ecosystems
- Landscaping with the Locals
During the series, 100 plants and 10 vegetation types will be covered, plus environmental weeds that threaten our bushland.
Landscaping with local species makes a lot of sense. Where to obtain these plants, how to choose the right ones and how to discover what already exists on a property, are questions that will be addressed, together with tips on getting the best results and extending the wildlife corridor into suburban gardens.
Cultural uses of the plants will be discussed together with their importance to other species.
The talks are free and open to all. They will be held at Noosa Library, Wallace Drive, Noosaville, on the third Thursday of each month, February to November, from 4 to 6 pm, beginning on Thursday 18th February.
For further information phone Stephanie Haslam 5449 8118
The talks are an extension of NICA’s “What LOCAL Native Plant is That?” schools programme, their “Noosa’s Native Plants” field guide and the website www.noosasnativeplants.com.au, supported by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and endorsed by Noosa Biosphere Limited
