Following Sheraton Noosa Resort and Spa’s announcement of a $60K, 12 month sponsorship commitment to Noosa Biosphere the funding will now be distributed to assist with community engagement.
One of Noosa Biosphere’s most effective tools to promote and engage with the community is through Noosa community radio station 101.3FM.
Deputy chair of Noosa Biosphere, Phil Moran, said that community radio is driven by volunteers and provides a great opportunity for people to talk about community projects.
“It is through the support of Sheraton Noosa Resort and Spa that we can sponsor the community radio station 101.3FM,” said Mr Moran.
“They are a volunteer organisation and like many others are in need of extra funds and for the Sheraton Noosa to be partnering in that is great. The Sheraton Noosa is involved in water and waste reduction and they’re here, and they are local.
“I can’t think of a better opportunity to support a fellow community organisation. One of the calls of being a community is about having a community radio station,” said Mr Moran.
The money will provide the station with new headphones and minor equipment however the majority of the fees will go towards radio specialists for the creation of podcasts.
Sherry Corcoran, Sponsorship coordinator for the Noosa Community Radio Station 101.3FM said that the creation of podcasts for Noosa Biosphere requires the work of a specialist who will come in to the station to produce and edit the broadcast.
“The Noosa Biosphere has a great message, we are equipped to do the podcast at the station however, we need to get someone in to do the production and editing and this is where some of the money will go,” said Ms Corcoran.
The podcasts will be drawn from the weekly Noosa Biosphere ‘magazine style’ one hour broadcast including interviews, on air every Friday at 11am.
Of the full $60,000 sponsorship from the Sheraton Noosa Resort and Spa, $5,000 will be allocated to sponsorship and production with the community radio station.
The remainder will be distributed throughout other projects including Noosa Biosphere Day to be held at Noosa Woods on September 19th and the Noosa Biosphere website.
