Seeking a community minded volunteer to help lead the Noosa Biosphere. *** Stop press *** Application period has been extended by two weeks!
Our organisation is charged with protecting, promoting and enhancing the Noosa Biosphere Reserve and has issued a call for a skilled and committed Community Director to join its Governance Board.
The new board member may also have the opportunity to head Noosa Biosphere Limited, given that the chairman is elected from one of its three community representatives on an annual basis.
Noosa Biosphere chair Michael Donovan said the successful applicant would work with their two fellow Community Directors, six Sector Board members and two Sunshine Coast Regional Councillors to ensure the ongoing success of the Biosphere and its projects.
“We need someone who can focus on strategy and embrace the agreed vision for the Biosphere so that they can contribute along with the other ten members of the board,” he said.
“They should have a good understanding of the Biosphere values and principles, a knowledge of the fine work of the Biosphere to date and experience on a not-for-profit organisation board.
“It is a very challenging but rewarding position for someone who has the necessary time and a strong drive to preserve and strengthen our region's unique and valuable lifestyle.”
Mr Donovan said Governance Board Community Directors played an integral role in the Noosa Biosphere's leadership model, strengthening the focus on community input that is an imperative of the Sector Boards.
“The whole of the Biosphere's focus is on community representation,” he said.
“The Governance Board is a conduit for opinion from the community, with each of the six Sector Boards – cultural, economic, environmental, social, tourism and education – acting as our eyes, ears and hands in the community.
“We have a bottom-up model that has been commended by UNESCO and other visitors to the Biosphere.
“But it is vital to our model that we have skilled leadership at the top to ensure good strategic vision, maintain correct governance and continue doing the best for the Noosa Biosphere community.”
Mr Donovan said the new Director will be expected to attend board meetings, held every six weeks, and represent the boards at community events.
“The Noosa Biosphere has a strong role to play in educating and communicating the core values of responsible and sustainable development and our Community Directors are an important part of that.”
“It is an active role and would suit an individual with strong links in the community who is able to represent the board when needed.”
Applications now close Friday 20th August, 2010 (a two week extension from the previously advertised date of 6th August 2010)
