Come along and share in local aboriginal culture at the Booin Gari festival today
Held at United Synergies between 10am - 2pm, 14 Ernest St Tewantin, this free annual event is a 'must do'.
The event’s name - Booin Gari - belongs to the Kabi Kabi (Gubbi Gubbi) language and means Come This Way. The event is a true opportunity to build positive relationships and share in local Aboriginal culture.
Booin Gari will feature a range of guest presentations from local community artists and performers including:
• Dale Chapman – who will conduct a bush tucker cooking demonstration
• Peter Mulcahy – art workshops and storytelling
• Judi Wickes – who will present “Walk in my Shadow” a discussion on the Stolen Generation
• The Gubbi Gubbi dancers
• Cool Companions – a reptile talk and handling session
In addition there will be activities such as learning circles and workshops incorporating story telling, Murri Art, boomerang art, and bush tucker tastings, ensuring there will be something for everyone. Support services will provide displays and be available to assist with information. All activities and performances on the day, including a sausage sizzle and bush tucker will be free.
The event is supported by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and Queensland Government Department of Communities.
